Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve officially launched
The President of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Waheed has officially launched the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and Baa Atoll Conservation Fund. The function was held at Baa atoll Eydhafushi Bahiyya Pre-School ON 13 June 2012. The event was attended by Minister of Environment and Energy Dr. Mariyam Shakeela, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Mr. Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Ghafoor, Minister of Fishers and Agriculture Mr. Ahmed Shafeeu, Minister of State Mr. Abdul Matheen Mohamed, Deputy Minister Mr. Abdullahi Majeed, partners from the resort community, members of the Atoll and Island Councils dignitaries from the UN , students, members of the public and the media.

The First National Stakeholder Conference on Declaring Maldives as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve was held at Bandos Island Resort on 8 November 2013.
This gathering was honored by the President of Republic of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Waheed. Also in attendance were the Vice President Mr. Mohamed Waheed Deen, Minister of Environment and Energy Dr. Mariyam Shakeela, cabinet Ministers, foreign dignitaries and dignitaries of the government, top level executives of the Ministry of Environment and Energy and other distinguished guests.
