Second mission of BR Consultant
Dr.Thomas Schaaf who has been assigned by Government of Maldives working together with IUCN to prepare the Nomination Document for Maldives to be declared as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve has visited Maldives on his second mission.
The main purpose of this mission is to update the national stakeholders involved regarding the preparation of the dossier to UNESCO and to undertake further meetings with the concerned authorities.
The Consultant in his first mission visited Baa Atoll and met with Atoll and Island Councils, NGOs, resorts and also had meetings BR Office as well.

Mr. Mabrook elected as President of Baa Atoll Council (2)
Mr.Mabrook Naseer who is the Vice President of the utgoing Atoll Councila has been elected as the new President of Baa Atoll, Atoll Council today at the first meeting held by the newly sworn in Atoll Council members.
At respective ceremonies held right across the atoll all members who were elected to the Island Councils were also sworn in today as well.
BR Office wishes to congratulate Mr. Mabrook Naseer newly elected President of Baa Atoll Council, Island Council Presidents and all members who were elected to the respective councils of all 13 inhabited islands.
BR Office and BACF meets Baa Atoll and Eydhafushi Council
Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office and Baa Atoll Conservation Fund has met with the newly elected members of Baa Atoll, Atoll Council and Baa Atoll Eydhafushi Island Council. The main purpose of these 2 meetings were formally introduce the BR and BACF Teams to the members of the Council and to start a dialogue with them in working together as we Have been working with the previous Councils.
It was informed in these meetings that it is customary for BR office and BACF to meet with all the Councils once they are sworn in, as we have undertaken this on 2 previous occasions.
Meetings with the remaining 12 island Councils are scheduled to take place after the end of Ramadan.
