BR Office meets Atoll and Eydhafushi Council
As part of the ongoing tour of Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve to meet the newly opened resorts and dives schools of Baa Atoll a meeting was held with the Island Councilors and members of Baa Atoll Council today.
The two meetings which were held separately at their respective premises of comprised discussion on the ongoing tour by the BR Team. The Council members were given a brief of the Workplan of BR Office first quarter of 2018, proposed Hanifaru Cleanup event and discussion included Environmental and Developmental Plans of Eydhafushi.
Atoll Council signs MOU with EPA
Secretariat of Baa Atoll Council has signed an MOU with Environmental Protection Agency of Maldives in managing the protected area of Olhugiri. The Vice President of Baa Atoll Council Mr. Ahmed Afrah signed on behalf of the Council and under the MOU signed Secretariat of Baa Atoll Council together with Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office will be responsible in managing the protected area.
Separate MOUs are to be signed between Secretariat of Baa Atoll Council and Hithaadhoo, Thulhaadhoo Councils in managing the area. Management Plan for the core area of Baa Atoll Olhugiri was gazetted by the Ministry of Environment and Energy effective 14 March 2018.
Joy Dive Maldives becomes the latest partner
As part of the ongoing tour of Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office, Dreamland The Unique Sea & Lake Resort Spa which is the latest edition to the tourist resorts in Baa Atoll was visited today where the team met with the management of the resort island and the Dive School.
During the meeting held with the dive school, JOY Dive Maldives officially became a partner of Baa ATOLL UNESCO Biosphere Reserve by signing off the partnership agreement between the Dive School and Baa Atoll Conservation Fund. The partnership agreement was signed by Mr. Thomas Lessing signed on behalf of Joy Dive Maldives while Managing Director Mr.Abdulla Shibau signed on behalf Baa Atoll Conservation Fund.
Also visited was Reethi Beach where meetings were held with the management of the resort and dive school.
We welcome Joy Dive Maldives as an official partner of Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve and look forward in managing Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve.
Annual Hanifaru MPA Cleanup undertaken
The annual Hanifaru cleanup was undertaken today with participation from Baa Atoll Education Centre, Manta Trust, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru, Ocean Dimensions, Baa Atoll Hospital, Liquid Salt Divers, MI College Eydhafushi, Secretariat of Baa Atoll Council, Eydhafushi Times, Secretariat of South Maalhosmadulu Eydhafushi Council, Family and Children Service Centre EydhafushI took part in the cleanup event.
We would like to convey our appreciation to Miladhoo, Coco Palm Dhunikolhu, Maldives Dusit Thani Maldives, Dreamland The Unique Sea & Lake Resort Spa, Soneva Fushi, Four Seasons Resort Maldives at Landaa Giraavaru and all involved in making this even a success which was held in pouring rain.
