BR Office meets Kihaa

Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Team met with the management and Dive School of Kihaa today. The main issues discussed in the meeting today included  management of Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve , partnership and other collaboration between BR office , management of the resort and Dive School of Kihaa.

Monthly Meeting 3 (Hanifaru Season 2017)

The third monthly meeting of Hanifaru Season 2017 was held at Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office today. Representatives from  Resorts, Baa Atoll Council, Baa Atoll Conservation Fund, Manta Trust and Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office Office were in attendance. 
 
The Agenda Items for the day included update of BR Activities, update of issues discussed in the second monthly meeting, update on the presentation of Baa Atoll Conservation Fund Grants programme. 
 
The next meeting is scheduled for the last week of December.
 

Internal Olhugiri Management Plan Discussions

Discussion was held at Environment Ministry today with regards to Integrated Plan of Management for the protected Area of Olhugiri between Environmental Protection Agency, Environment Department and Baa Atoll  Biosphere Reserve Office.
 
One of the main outcomes of the meeting was coming up with a DRAFT to be sent to Baa Atoll Council for their comments and it is envisaged that the final draft will be ready by the end of January 2018 after receiving comments from Baa Atoll Council.
 

Declaration of UNESCO World Heritage Site,

Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve was at present at the Workshop on Management and Planning of Coral Stones Mosques of Maldives organized by Department of National Heritage from 5 – 7 December 2017 at National Museum.
The experiences of the Atoll Ecosystem Conservation Project, declaration of Baa Atoll as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, establishment of Baa Atoll Conservation Fund and information on grants provided under the grants scheme  from Baa Atoll Conservation Fund Work was shared in this Workshop.
Work is presently being undertaken by the Department of National Heritage to list the Grand Friday Mosque of Male’ as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
