Manta Ray and Turtles released
A joint effort by Environment Protection Agency, Maldives Police Services and Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office has led to the release a manta ray and turtles in captivity from Shaviyani Atoll Funadhoo. The case was brought to the attention of Environment Protection Agency by the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office upon receiving news of this from a local resident of Shaviyani Atoll Funadhoo that a manta ray and turtles are being kept fenced within the lagoon of the island. The BR office would like to thank for bringing this to our attention and hope that more and more people will start undertaking their individual responsibility in managing our environment and looking after the protected species and areas of Maldives.
Reef Check Survey of Core Areas of Aaa undertaken
A team from Environment Protection Agency (EPA) together with Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office (BR OFFICE) staff has conducted a reef check survey of some of the protected areas (core areas) of Baa Atoll and other reefs in the atoll as well. The survey team which visited the core areas of Nibiligaa, Mendhoo and Hanifaru was led by Deputy Minister of Ministry of Environment Mr.Abdulla Mohamed Didi, Director General of EPA Mr.Ibrahim Naeem and was accompanied by Mr.Abdulla Shibau and Mr.Shaafi Ali from BR OFFICE.BR Team to visit Addu City and Fuvahmulah
A team from Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve Office, together with representation Baa Atoll Atoll Council and Baa Atoll Conservation Fund will be visiting Addu Atoll and Fuahmulah from 19th to 23rd March 2016.The main purpose of the visit is to share the experience of Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve with Addu and Fuvahmulah Protected Area Management Teams and to gain knowledge of the work undertaken in management of the protected areas of Addu and Fuahmulah.
The BR Team on this visit is also scheduled to meet Addu City Council, Fuvahmulah Council and also to visit Shangrila Resort.
